It is known that men and women are treated differently. Society tells us that men are stronger, powerful, and robust, while women are emotional, weak, and delicate. With these descriptions, society tells us that men are in charge of the relationship, especially sexual relations. This gives men the upper hand because of the idea of male power, which can give off a negative effect towards women. The idea of this male power complex is connected to abuse and domestic violence. |
"If a guy steps ever so slightly outside of these gender norms, his peers will bring him back into line by calling his heterosexuality into question, which implicitly challenges his gender, which pushes men to embrace both homophobia and hyper masculinity" (Dusenbery).
